Pets at Home Group Plc, the UK’s leading pet care business, has teamed up with ModernLogic, the UK’s largest Blue Yonder WMS partner, to help transform its Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) over the next two years and ensure a smooth transition to its new distribution centre.

The WMS project is part of Pets at Home’s transformational digital initiative and planned investment to upgrade its distribution platform to help meet anticipated future growth across the business.

Pets at Home currently has three warehouses, each running its own on-site version of Blue Yonder Dispatcher. ModernLogic is providing the expertise to design and deliver an upgraded WMS environment, including cloud architecture, building warehouse processes, system configuration, integration with conveyor and voice-picking systems, as well as a comprehensive programme of training, including 24/7 support post completion.

The new distribution facility in Redhill, Staffordshire, is currently under construction and is scheduled to be operational in 2023.

William Hewish, Chief Information Officer at Pets at Home, said: “Consolidating our warehouses and upgrading the WMS are key strategic initiatives which will help underpin our convenience proposition for customers, increase the e-commerce capacity of our growing business and improve our store availability while generating efficiencies for the Group.

“We are building a new digital platform which will deliver a seamless pet care experience for customers across our app, website and stores, including our veterinary practices and Groom Rooms. The WMS is one of the key enablers of this project with effective fulfilment being the backbone of retail success and customer satisfaction.”

David Carline, Pets at Home’s IT business partner for Retail, added: “A well-executed, smooth transition of the WMS is fundamental as it forms part of a wider programme of clearly phased initiatives.”

“We chose to partner with ModernLogic given their significant expertise in Blue Yonder Dispatcher. They have the right capabilities and required agility to match our service needs. We have been working with ModernLogic for just over a year and they are well entrenched within our project team, providing essential advice and expertise whenever required.

“This is a significant project for our business and we are confident that we have chosen the right partner to help deliver it on time and on budget.”

ModernLogic’s CEO Jon Hewitt said, “It’s a pleasure to work with Pets at Home on such an important project. Our aim is to take the strain for them, so that come what may, they feel they have a partner they can rely on to provide them with a stable WMS that keeps operations going and customers happy 24/7.”
